USA Baseball announced the 40 players named to the 2016 USA Baseball Women’s National Team Trials roster. Among the 40 players was Louisville alum Brittany Duncan. Duncan will continue to work hard before she heads to California State University, Fullerton, from August 22-25, 2016 where the Women’s National Team Trials will be held. After the trials, 20-players will be selected from those 40 to the Women’s National Team that will travel to Gijang City, South Korea, for the World Baseball Softball Confederation (WBSC) Women’s Baseball World Cup from September 3-11, 2016.
The National Team Trials roster is composed of athletes between the ages of 16 and 42 who hail from 13 different states. Fifteen of the 18 players on the Women’s National Team that won the first-ever gold medal in women’s baseball at the 2015 Pan American Games were named to the 2016 National Team Trials roster. While not on the 2015 Pan American Games team, one player was part of the gold medal-winning Women’s National Team at 2015 Pan American Qualifiers, and another is a two-time alum of the Women’s National Team, winning the gold medal at the 2006 Women’s Baseball World Cup and the bronze medal at the same event in 2008.
Per gocards.com – “I just went to the tryout to have fun, and I ended up making the first cut,” said Duncan. “It has been an amazing experience so far and I am excited about the opportunity to continue playing.”
Duncan, who completed her senior season in 2015, spent two years at Louisville while playing at designated player or first base. She transferred to Louisville from Valparaiso in 2014 and made an immediate impact, leading the team with 41 RBIs and finishing second on the team with 10 home runs. She also set a school record with 48 walks on the season and stands 10th on the school’s career list for walks.
The 2014 American Athletic Conference All-Tournament selection opened the 2015 season with a home run, but suffered an injury in the second week of the season.
