One UofL recruiting target fans have watched with great interest for the 2018 class is James Cook. Unfortunately, he has chosen to attend the University of Georgia over the Cards. This was expected since Cook cooled off on Louisville after the commitment of Javian Hawkins. He’s a stud!
Cook, who plays at Miami Central High School with UofL Commits Robert Hicks III and Chandler Jones, is a consensus 4 star RB per 247 Sports composite rankings. He has been named a US Army All-American and will be playing on the East team in their annual bowl game.
Cook was a highly coveted player at a position of need for UofL. RB will be a tad thin next year for UofL with the departures of seniors Reggie Bonnafan and Malik Williams. UofL also lost a commitment from JUCO RB Greg Bell recently.

However, they do have a commitment from the aforementioned Javian Hawkins for the 2018 class and he’s been highly productive in his senior season. He rushed for 351 yards and 4 TDs in his last game.
The Cards will also return RBs Dae Williams, Colin Wilson, and Jeremy Smith next year.
Wilson will be coming back from a significant knee injury, but showed flashes of brilliance in the game against Akron earlier this year.

Smith is taking a medical redshirt after getting injured earlier this year. However, when Smith is on, he can be a powerful runner with the speed to break a long run.

Dae Williams is coming back from an ACL tear and just played in his first game at FSU. He is a big, bruising back with some speed that looks to be exactly the type of back Bobby needs in his system.
While the cupboard obviously isn’t bare by any stretch of the imagination, losing out on a highly touted RB prospect the caliber of James Cook still hurts.
Best of luck to the young man in his future endeavors.
