Louisville Football Excels on the Field and In the Classroom

Forty student-athletes earn a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – While the University of Louisville football team is preparing for another postseason appearance, the squad concluded a successful campaign in the classroom.

Posting an 8-4 record on the field and securing a trip to the TaxSlayer Bowl, the Cardinals were just as productive academically. Forty student-athletes were named to the Athletic Director’s Honor Roll for achieving at least a 3.0 grade-point average during the fall semester. Two players posted 4.0 GPAs in the fall.

Thirteen players will compete in the bowl game with their degrees in hand. Safety Chucky Williams, defensive linemen Drew Bailey and De’Asian Richardson and linebackers Trevon Young and Stacy Thomas graduated last fall.

Linebacker James Hearns, tight ends Tyler Polston and Charles Standberry, wide receiver Traveon Samuel, running back Malik Williams, defensive tackle Henry Famurewa, offensive tackle Lukayus McNeil, and cornerback Trumaine Washington graduated last weekend.

The football team recently was recognized as one of six programs at Louisville to receive an NCAA Public Recognition Award for ranking among the top 10 percent nationally in Academic Progress Rate (APR) scores for the most recent four-year period from 2012-16.

The Cardinals conclude the season against Mississippi State on Dec. 30 at noon in Jacksonville, Fla.
