The Trinity High School product had a productive 3 years at his hometown university with his best year being this year. Spalding averaged 12.3 points a game and led the team in rebounding averaging 8.7 a game this season. He earned 2018 All-ACC Honorable Mention Team.
Spalding carried himself well both on and off the court. He represented the university with class despite the pall of scandal that hung over it in his 3 years, including the postseason ban he endured his freshman year. Ray also excelled in the classroom as he made the All-ACC Academic team in all 3 of his years on campus.
At 6’10 225 lbs with great athleticism, Spalding will be trying to impress NBA teams with his tantalizing potential. As Donovan Mitchell and Terry Rozier proved before him, all it takes is one team to fall in love with him.
This now leaves UofL with 3 open scholarships and it will be interesting to see what new UofL Head Coach Chris Mack does with them.
It would’ve been really fun to see Ray play in Mack’s offense, but it will also be fun following him through the process and seeing where he may end up on draft night.
Congrats Ray Spalding from all of us here at Cardinal Sports Zone and good luck and good fortune to you in your new endeavour.
