It’s not everyday a dream job opportunity presents itself. So when many of you sent me the job listing from the Courier Journal for a new Louisville football beat writer, I was instantly intrigued. I did my research on the job and all the responsibilities that pertain to the job, and it seems that almost everything the job requires, I am currently doing or have done before. More importantly, My heart is 100% in the job. I wouldn’t be a guy from out of town who has to learn what Louisville is about. I’ve been part of it my whole life.
Quite frankly, I feel the CJ could use someone who is more of a fan of the school he/she covers rather than supposedly a neutral writer or one who seems to have an agenda of just finding or making a story when there is not one there. But that’s just my opinion.
Without a doubt, I’m completely sure there is no one better for this job than me. I would absolutely kill this job – and that is not debatable.
I want to take a moment to thank all of my friends, readers, followers, etc who sent me the listing for the job and those who sent me a message saying I would be perfect for it. I’m humbled to know that you guys think that much of me. I’m truly blessed.
But after much consideration and evaluating my situation, the timing of the job just doesn’t fit at this point in my life. I am most likely retiring at or near the end of the year, but I will not be sailing off into the sunset. I will remain in Louisville and will be doing something with photography as well as staying with Cardinal Sports Zone. I still enjoy writing but photography is where my heart is. I am also looking forward to spending more time with my children. Showing up at school and having lunch with my boys brings me so much joy.
Rest easy Card family, the job will most likely be put in good hands. Personally, I can’t think of anyone better for the job than Justin Krueger. I know he is throwing his hat into the ring and would be great at bringing you, the readers and fans, exactly what you want. Justin is the best young sports writer around. If you have ever read any of his stuff, you know that when you finish his articles, you are just a little bit more knowledgeable than you were before you started reading it. He is a statistical genius and manages to relay those stats in a way that everyone can understand without overwhelming you with numbers.
I don’t know who the CJ will ultimately hire but If I get my wish, Justin will be your man. It’s bitter sweet for me because he would be leaving Cardinal Sports Zone and would not be easy to replace but I couldn’t be happier for him if he does get the job. Best of Luck, Justin!
As Always, GO CARDS!
