Scott Satterfield has said that he would continue to seek ways to improve his 2019 squad if an opportunity presented itself. Today, an opportunity presented itself as Marshall Grad Transfer DL Ty Tyler decided to finish his career in a Cardinal uniform.

Tyler is a 6’3 262 lbs sack artist that will give UofL a proven pass rusher. He had 44 tackles, 8 sacks, and 9 tackles for loss last year for the Marshall Thundering Herd. He also returned a fumble 26 yards for a TD against Lamar Jackson and Louisville during his redshirt freshman season in 2016.

Tyler lined up primarily at DE for Marshall, but occasionally lined up at DT. For UofL, I see him as a DE and possibly an OLB. What he will bring to UofL is a well rounded pass rusher. He’s strong enough to power OT into the backfield and get to the QB. He shines with his speed rush, blowing by the OT on the edge and wreaking havoc in the backfield.

Tyler will be a big help in stopping the run as well. Obviously, this is partly due to his ability to get into the backfield at will. However, his eye discipline also plays a big part. Tyler shows an ability to be patient and find the ball before attacking. These abilities likely explain how he can have 44 tackles with 9 of them for a loss.

UofL picking up an experienced, talented edge rusher like Tyler this late is unbelievable and awesome. Tyler will be eligible immediately for Coach Scott Satterfield and will have an immediate impact. Next year should be fun to see what this defense can really do.
