On Monday and Tuesday, the Cardinals competed in the Illini Women’s Invitational. Senior Lauren Hartlage led the charge for the Cardinals. She finished the tournament with six shots under par performance which got her a tied third place finish for the tournament. #16 Women’s Soccer:

The #16 Cardinals hosted #9 Clemson Tigers Thursday evening at Lynn Stadium. The Cardinals and Tigers were locked in a defensive battle early. Senior Allison Whitfield corner kicked in the third minute to set up fellow Senior Callie McKinney for the goal. The Cardinals’ defense held the high scoring Tiger’s offense in check to record their 7th shutout of the season. This win moved the Cardinals to 11-1-1 and 4-1 in the ACC.

Then, on Sunday the Cardinals traveled to South Bend to face the Fighting Irish of Notre Dame. This game ended in a 0-0 Tie game however.

Up Next: The Cardinals host #11 Duke Friday evening at 5pm on ACC Network Extra.

#5 Field Hockey:

On Friday, The #5 Cardinals hosted #9 Virginia Cavaliers in the Top Ten battle. The Cardinals jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first quarter but Virginia responded in crunch time. The Cavaliers responded with two fourth quarter goals. The loss snapped a four game winning streak for the Cardinals and dropped them 2-2 in ACC play and 10-2 on the season.

Men’s Golf:

The Cardinals were able to win their 2nd straight tournament this weekend, in comeback fashion nonetheless! Entering the final round of the Bank of Tennessee Intercollegiate trailing by 4 strokes, our Cards were able to card a 12-under 276, winning the tourney at 34-under-par, besting out 2nd place finisher East Tennessee by 5 strokes. The team was led by 2 players tying at 5th place overall, Sophomore Jiri Zuska (shooting a tied for personal best 7-under-par), and senior John Murphy (posting his 4th-straight top-15 finish). Congrats to our Cards! Also, fun fact, this is only the 2nd time in program history they have won consecutive tournaments, with the previous time coming in the 2006-2007 season.

Men’s Soccer:

This week there was only one game to be played, and unfortunately this game came against the #11 team in the country, the Clemson Tigers. This game was at Clemson, and they rode the home pitch advantage, as the Cards fell to the Tigers 4-0, dropping the Cards record to 5 wins, 4 losses, and 2 ties.

Up Next: 2 home games on the docket for this week, as our Cards will host Northern Kentucky (Tuesday October 15th at 7 PM) and Boston College (Friday October 18th at 7:30 PM), with both games watchable on ACC Network Extra.

Football:

Whew! How is everyone holding up after the game on Saturday? Our Cards traveled to #19 Wake Forest, and in what is my humble opinion one of the strangest games of the year, the Cards pulled out the W, 62-59 (!!!). No matter the circumstance, we now stand at 4-2 and 2-1 in ACC play on the season. Big congrats to Coach Satterfield and his staff, and all the players too, for bringing home Card Nation a road win over a ranked opponent for the first time since I believe 2016. I believe this team will be bowling this year. Do you?

Up next: The Big one. We host #3 Clemson on Saturday October 19th. It’s scheduled for a Noon kickoff on ABC. It’s not only one of the biggest games of the season, it is also now a battle for 1st place in the division. Let’s pack the stadium shall we?

That’s all for this week friends, As always, GO CARDS!!!
