Louisville Quarterbacks Coach Frank Ponce held a teleconference on June 30th to discuss his QBs. Louisville has a lot of talent in their QB room with presumptive starter Micale Cunningham, former starter Jawon Pass, sophomore Evan Conley, and incoming freshman Tee Webb.
Coach Ponce discusses Micale Cunningham and what his development has looked like so far. Specifically, he addressed how Micale has developed as a pocket passer and how he has developed better poise at a position where it is a vital attribute.
Jawon Pass and his role in the QB room are specifically discussed. Many Louisville fans believed Jawon would likely transfer as Micale developed into a capable starter. Instead, he chose to return to Louisville and continue to compete and try to earn back his starting role. Coach Ponce was happy to see the old Puma show up in spring practice before it was shut down. When camp hopefully starts, Coach Ponce believes that Jawon will continue to push Micale.
Of course, Coach Ponce also addresses sophomore QB Evan Conley and incoming freshman Tee Webb. Conley had a shoulder issue during spring ball according to Coach Ponce. However, he’s now 100% and looks to be ready to roll in the fall. Coach Ponce specifically points out Evan’s studious, competitive, workaholic nature and commends it.
With Webb, Coach Ponce believes he has the tools to be a special player. While he had understandable issues early on in spring ball, Coach Ponce said by the end you could see the arm talent that will make him, “somebody exciting to watch in the near future.”
