Coach Walz:

  • “Ramani is a face-up forward with guard skills.”
  • “Whenever you get an opportunity to redshirt players of that caliber and give them an extra year of training, it’s only going to benefit everyone down the road.”

Breakdown: An excellent stretch four, Parker runs the floor like a gazelle. Parker’s ability to shoot the three is a huge plus to her game, being that she’s 6’4 and most post defenders don’t want to leave the painted area. Ramani is a long and fluid athlete who is a major defensive presence in the paint. Whether Parker is the on-ball defender or the help side defender, she is a great shot blocker. Ramani is long and athletic with incredible leaping ability. Parker uses her length and athleticism to be a huge factor on the glass.

My Take: There are minutes to have at the 4 & 5 spot on this year’s team. If Coach Walz decides to go with a more traditional lineup approach (two post players) look for Parker to get a ton of minutes at the power forward spot. Ramani will be an excellent trail four. Card Nation will see glimpses of a younger, more athletic Kylee Shook mixed with some Sara Hammond.
