Jeff Brohm is a son of the city of Louisville and he is UofL football royalty. His entire family has been a bloodline that runs through the Cardinal football program. It began with father Oscar playing QB for the school, then to himself playing QB and brother Greg playing WR, before ending with brother Brian quarterbacking the Cards. Jeff coached here as QB coach and offensive coordinator, even turning down an opportunity in 2007 to be the OC at Alabama under Nick Saban. The Brohm family is arguably the DNA of the Cardinal football program.
Now, the prodigal son returns to his program, his home, to help resurrect it to the heights of its former glory. Heights that included a Fiesta Bowl win over Alabama in 1990, a BCS bowl birth and win in the 2007 Orange Bowl, another BCS win in the 2013 Sugar Bowl, and a Heisman winning QB in Lamar Jackson. He returns after leading Purdue from the doldrums that exist below even mediocrity to respectability.
Jeff Brohm and @LouisvilleFB are in the process of finalizing a deal to bring Brohm back to his alma mater as head coach, sources tell ESPN. The deal would be for six years in the $35 million range. Brohm has been at @BoilerFootball the past six seasons.

It is being reported the deal is being finalized. It is likely somewhere in the vicinity of 6 years for $35 million dollars. It’s no chump change, but we aren’t hiring a chump. Brohm is a proven winner, going 66-44 over 9 seasons as a head coach at WKU and Purdue. His last two seasons, Brohm was 9-4 and 8-5 at Purdue including a trip to this year’s Big 10 title game. He is 5-1 in bowl games as a head coach as well.
Jeff Brohm will bring an exciting brand of offense that UofL fans have been accustomed to over the years. It’s a pass-happy, pro-style with elements of spread. He will need to hire a top notch defensive staff to help supplement his offensive genius, but they had better have extra light bulbs at the ready because the scoreboard should indeed be lighting up constantly during the fall for the next 6 years.
His coaching style is one of energy and passion. He breathes fire, yet has a good heart. I suspect he will bring a fire and energy that the former coach couldn’t seem to muster. His development skills are amazing as he took former walk-on QB Aidan O’Connell and turned him into bona fide power 5 starter. When it comes to recruiting, Brohm landed current NFL WR Rondale Moore, 4 Star DL George Karlaftis, 4 Star WR and current Cleveland Brown David Bell, and multiple other 4 Star players.
It was time for Jeff Brohm to return home. Make no mistake, this is home. His family is rooted here, he grew up here, played football here, and coached here. If there was ever someone with Louisville and UofL in their blood, it’s Jeff Brohm. Now, he seeks to lead the program from the sideline to glory as he once did as a player. Brohm knows the history, he and his family have been key parts of the history, now he looks to make history by hopefully leading the Cards to ACC titles and playoff appearances.
You should look up the meaning of prodigal.
