Ones To Watch: Miami

Welcome to this week’s edition of Ones to Watch. I will show you the statistical leaders on the team, talk to you about some things I observed on film, & whatever else catches my eye. I will not be stepping on JK’s toes for his EYNTK piece (much), but giving you a little to be on the lookout for. FYI, if you haven’t checked out EYNTK I suggest you do. It’s fantastic. Here we go…

The 5-0 Canes are averaging a respectable 35 ppg this season. They have rushed for a total of only 819 & thrown for 1321 through the air in five games. An Offense statistically inferior to Virginia last week going in. They are averaging 428 yards per game. Not super impressive. No wonder they have been the only school to not provide stats. Their starting QB, Carson Beck, has the following stat line so far. He has completed 102-139 passes (73.4%), thrown 3 interceptions, 1213 yards, 11 TD’s with a long of 51. He is averaging 242 yards through the air per game this season. The offense has only committed 3 turnovers so far with all being INT’s by Beck.

Receiving wise, Malachi Toney (29 for 375 & 3 TD), Cam Ross (24 for 286 & 1 TD), & CJ Daniels (23 for 269 & 5 TD) are leading the way this season. On the ground, Mark Fletcher, Jr (78 rushes for 428 yds & 5 TD) & CharMar Brown (57 rushes for 225 yds & 4 TD) make up for 653 out of the teams total 819 yards on the ground.

Their defense has forced 9 turnovers this season. They have sacked the opposing QB 12 times this season. UVA has given up 7 TD’s this season. Their leading tacklers are Rueben Bain (26), Mohamed Toure (24), & Akheem Mesidor (23). Mesidor & Bain are their defensive leaders. 

Special teams: 5-5 FG’s 

Their punter avg 39.8 ypp
