On Monday afternoon, it was learned that the Louisville Cardinals will not only have to replace Gerod Holliman in the secondary next season, but also James Sample, who will forego his senior season and enter the NFL Draft.

While Holliman got most of the attention because of his interception numbers, a lot of people think that Sample was actually the better defensive back. He led the Cards with 90 tackles and had 4 interceptions on the season. He joined the team at the end of the summer, right before fall camp, and ended up being a great addition.

Entering the season, one of the biggest question marks was the secondary due to the losses of Calvin Pryor and Hakeem Smith. Holliman and Sample certainly filled those voids quite nicely. Next season, Todd Grantham will have to plug in two more guys to fill the void once again.
