LOUISVILLE, KY. — Edwin Kibichiy advanced to the finals of the 3,000m steeplechase on the first day of competition at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore. at historic Hayward Field.
“Edwin was very patient tonight as he won the first semifinal heat,” said head coach Dale Cowper. “Edwin and Coach Walker have done a tremendous job of preparing for this weekend’s championship. I’m sure Friday’s steeplechase final will be exciting to watch.”
Kibichiy won the first semifinal heat with a career best time of 8:33.56. Overall he finished first overall and qualified Friday’s final. He has earned second team All-American honors in the event the last two seasons for the Cardinals.
On Thursday Emmonnie Henderson will compete in the first of two events, the shot put at 9:30 p.m. ET. Henderson is making her second NCAA Championship appearance after earning All-America honors in the shot put last year.
