On Saturday, UofL Football held Media day 2017. They take the team picture, you eat breakfast with the entire media then comes the press conference & individual interviews with players & coaches. It had been Charlie Strongs final season since I had been there due to CSZ on 93.9. I missed it so much. I was excited to be there but not only for myself. I brought the newbys with me. Katie Goben & Cody Higdon. They both have been with the site less than a month & jumped at the opportunity to cover it. I brought old ironsides Jeff Nunn as well. He shared his thoughts on media day via photos. Katie & Cody had a great time during their first of many Media Days. Here is what they had to say about their first times…Enjoy!
Katie:
This past Saturday, I had the privilege and honor of attending UofL’s Football Media Day. Coming into the day, I was nervous, maybe even intimidated. Meeting people I have seen on television, or even just on Twitter, who gave me the updates about things going on in the University world for so long, was sorta surreal. That is when it hit me, that I could be that person for someone else one day, and that is a really cool feeling.
Once my initial anxiety calmed down some, I tried my best to just soak up the moment. This is something I had dreamed about since I was a kid. I was going to be in the same room as the 2016 Heisman winner, and I was going to have the chance to ask him questions. HOW FREAKING COOL IS THAT?! Needless to say, I kept my fan-girling to a minimum and tried my best to act like a professional.
One of the biggest take a ways from the day for me, was how nice everyone was. Bobby was cracking classic rock jokes, Lamar was joking about how mature he felt with his new haircut, and the TaxBoys were loving the love their nickname was getting. The energy in the room was magnetic. You could tell that the players loved this team, and Coach Petrino did too. I have been excited for the season to start since the final out of the CWS, and this weekend just amplified it. I have a feeling we are in for a special season, and I can’t wait to ride the roller coaster that is college football, with each and every one of you. Go cards!
Cody:
This past Saturday was an AMAZING experience. I had always dreamed of one day getting to interview sports celebrities. I always go to all the different sports preseason banquets with my family but this was a more interesting than one of those. I was worried that I wouldn’t ask the right questions and get weird reactions from the coaches and players. I had always dreamed of getting to ask them things that I wanted to know whether it be team oriented or personal oriented.
One of my favorite things was seeing these players and coaches becoming personal with us. I just loved how it seemed like we opened another side of them. This team and coaching staff really do seem like a close-knit family I could see it in the way they interacted with everyone.
Overall, I enjoyed media day and I can’t wait to go to another to see what it has to offer. For it being my first media day I’ll always remember it…
