UofL Football officially announced the hire of QB Coach Frank Ponce today. Ponce follows Head Coach Scott Satterfield from Appalachian State, where he was QB coach and Co-OC.
One of his pupils at App State was Taylor Lamb. Lamb was very successful under Ponce for his four years at App State. In his career, according to sports-reference.com, Lamb completed nearly 61% of his passes for 9,763 yards and 90 TDs. Lamb also rushed for 2008 yards and 23 TDs with a 6.1 yard per carry career average.
Before App State, Ponce was WRs coach at FIU and worked with Satterfield when Satterfield was OC there. He was the position coach of one T.Y. Hilton when Hilton and FIU lit up Charlie Strong’s UofL defense in route to a victory at Cardinal Stadium.
Ponce is a Miami native and coached around several different high schools in the Miami area including two UofL fans might know pretty well; Miami Northwestern and Miami Central. Miami Northwestern produced quite a few UofL players including Teddy Bridgewater and Tutu Atwell. Miami Central gave UofL Robert Hicks and Chandler Jones. His connections in the Miami area should serve UofL very well.
