The staff has been looking diligently for a Tutu-type of player in the high schools ranks to try to fill the huge hole he left behind by the loss of his top tier speed and ability to make plays with the ball in his hands. They may have found the perfect replacement in Louisiana speedster Zavion Thomas, who just pledged himself as the next member of #FlyVille22.

Measuring in at a very solid 5’11 190 lbs, Zavion clocked in multiple low 4.3 40 times including a 4.32 at LSU’s camp which really caught the eyes of multiple SEC teams including the Tigers’ very own Ed Orgeron. On tape you can definitely see the comparisons to Tutu. He is an absolute master of the YAC aspect of the receiving game where he’s able to just fly past defenders even if they have a great angle on him. He’s also very sure-handed on tape which was something coaches and scouts raved about as well during his camp performances. He has absolutely no fear going over the middle to catch the ball even if he does feel a defender closing in. His size is definitely something that sticks out about him compared to the other slot prospects the staff has recruited. At 190 already, not nearly as much time will have to be spent on preparing his body for high level ACC play.
I think Thomas’ physical attributes make him someone who could see snaps as a true freshman. For Zavion, it’ll really just be about how fast he can process the offense and working on his blocking which, at 190 lbs, should come a lot more naturally for him than some of the other prospects and even someone like Tutu.
Overall, I think the staff got an absolute steal with Thomas. The only thing that worries me is there does seem to be some interest coming from LSU now, which is the dream school for most kids out of Louisiana, so an offer may swing him away from the Ville. However, that’s a risk the staff should be willing to take considering the tape, the camp performances, and the potential Thomas has in our offense.
