CBS Sports polled over 100 NCAA D1 coaches anonymously and asked them who the best coaching hire of 2018 was. By 1 percent of the vote, UofL’s hiring of Chris Mack was dubbed the best hire followed by UCONN’s hire of Dan Hurley. Mack garnered 32 percent of the votes to Hurley’s 31 percent.

CBS Sports’ Matt Norlander provides quotes from the anonymous coaches about the coaches in this poll, gives some background on those coaches, and also list previous winners of the poll. Last year’s winner was Archie Miller, by the way.

Mack was praised by fellow coaches for his excellent personality, his ability to recruit and develop talent, and, of course, coach. They all seem to think he was the perfect hire for UofL and can help the program rise from the plagues of scandal to prominence once again.

The one quote that seemed to stick out most from the article in regards to Mack was from a Big East coach, ”He’s a proven guy. The amount of success he had at Xavier speaks for itself. It’s a natural fit going to Louisville. Excellent recruiter, gets the best out of his guys, and there’s so much you can do at a place like Louisville, with what Louisville’s ceiling is, Chris is talented enough to match that and what they expect of him.”

Many UofL fans agree with the anonymous coaches that Chris Mack is the right guy for the job. Coach Mack is gearing up for his first season as Louisville head coach with a daunting schedule to navigate. With his ability, we fans have no doubt he is capable of meeting the challenge.
