Last night marked another milestone in his early career, Donovan Mitchell has posted 20+ points in each of his last 10 games, marking the longest 20-point streak by a rookie in Jazz history. The day before the NBA Dunk Contest, the Utah Jazz called and offered to pay for Darrell Griffith to come out and watch. While Dr. Dunkenstein couldn’t accept because it was so short notice, he was shocked to see that Donovan Mitchell was wearing his jersey during the contest. It made his evening. Marc Spears with The Undefeated sat down with Darrell Griffith and Donovan Mitchell to talk about their bond and when it all started.
Donovan Mitchell continues to shine in the NBA. He is currently on the cover of SLAM Magazine and he looks mighty comfortable in the spotlight. He talks in the interview with Adam Figman that he knows that all of this can be taken from him in a flash, so he is not letting it get to his head. The Utah Jazz announced today that Jazz alumnus Darrell Griffith will make an appearance on Friday, Feb. 23 as the team takes on the Portland Trail Blazers in its first game back from the All-Star Break. Griffith, the first ever Jazz NBA Slam Dunk Contest representative in 1984 and 1985, will also participate in a pre-game recognition honoring Jazz guard Donovan Mitchell for winning the 2018 NBA Slam Dunk Contest at NBA All-Star Weekend. As a tribute to the former Jazz man known as Dr. Dunkenstein, Mitchell wore Griffith’s No. 35 uniform for one of his dunks as he jumped over his sister, comedian Kevin Hart and Hart’s son.

The 18th school shooting of 2018 happened yesterday in Parkland, Florida. 17 people have fallen victim to this tragedy, and it has brought to everyone’s attention back to the gun violence America is facing. Donovan Mitchell took this tragedy to heart – as his mom is a school teacher. For last night’s game, he simply wrote “Pray for Parkland” and “End gun violence” on his shoes. Donovan has his stage, and he is using it the best he can.

Donovan Mitchell was selected 13th overall by the Utah Jazz in the 2017 NBA Draft. Now, he has been selected to play in the Rising Stars Game presented by Mountain Dew Kickstart and the NBA All-Star Dunk Contest all while participating in community events throughout the break as well. The Jazz are currently on a 10 game winning streak – with a big thanks to Donovan.
