Cardinal Week In Review 4-14

This is the Cardinal week in review 4/14/14:

First off, this is the first week without 55 in several months but we had a ton of news. We did see our first edition of 4YourInfo by Daryl though. From TrezL to the road sweep of then #7 Houston, here is the week in review.

Men’s Basketball:

MontrezL HarreLL has decided to come back for his Junior year. That makes us happy. Wayne Blackshear wiLL NOT leave and both wiLL be captains for next season. I beLieve once Chris announces his intentions that he wiLL aLso be named captain. Here’s every dunk from trezL this year…P.S. Women’s Basketball

Tonight at 8pm on ESPN2, then from 9-10:30 on ESPNU the 2014 WNBA Draft will be held. Shoni Schimmel was one of only 12 people to be invited to the draft meaning she should be a first rounder. All Seniors from this class are eligible for the draft.

Women’s Golf

The University of Louisville women’s golf team shot a 295 in the final round to finish tied for sixth at the Web.com Intercollegiate in Jacksonville, Fla. The Cardinals finished with a final score of 884, which put them in a tie with Minnesota and Missouri. Emily Haas led the Cardinals and shot a 69 in the final round to finish tied for sixth place. Haas finished with a final score of 215 and shot -1 for the tournament. The Women are currently ranked 36th. New rankings out Wednesday.

Baseball: 27-8 Overall (7-2) Conf

The Baseball Cardinals went 4-0 this week. An extra inning affair at Purdue 3-1 (10), and then a 3 game sweep at then #7 Houston helped the Cards jump up a few spots in the rankings this week. The Cards won 4-2, 3-2, 10-3 @ Houston. Next up is tomorrow night’s clash with #22 kentucky then a trip to sunny Florida to face UCF in a 3 game series.

Dropped Out: No. 21 Mississippi State, No. 22 UCLA, No. 23 Tennessee.

Softball: 27-15 (8-4)

The Softball team is starting to put it all together as they also went 4-0 this week in dispatching Evansville 4-3 (8) then taking down UCONN 6-0, 9-1 (5), 9-1 (5) as their bats were on fire at ULMER this week. They have struggled at times this season but have now won 7 in a row leading to a 27-15 record (8-4 AAC) with 11 games remaining. Home games vs Temple on 4/26 (DH) and 4/27 then the big one vs  #11 uk on 4/30 is all that’s remaining. The girls of boom head to UCF this weekend. Here’s hoping a 3-0 week this week! Go Cards!

Men’s Tennis: 20-5

The Cards go undefeated this week (feel like a broken record) with a 5-0 record. The Cards did not lose one set! 7-0 wins over EKU, Youngstown State and Wright State and a 4-0 decision over Austin Peay concludes their regular season. They head to Memphis Thursday for the AAC Championships.

Women’s Lacrosse: 10-3 (4-0)

These Cards went 2-0 this week (slackers) as the defeated Temple 15-6 and Villanova 16-9, both games on the road. They have UCONN on Thursday at 4pm and Rutgers at 1pm Saturday at home. They are on a 6 game winning streak themselves and finish the season with 3 straight at home before heading to Washington DC May 1st for the Big East Tourney if they finish in the top four in their conference. Right now they are sitting in 1st place.

They also moved up in the latest polls released today!

Women’s Tennis: 12-4 (2-1)

The Women’s tennis team ended their regular season on a winning note as they went 1-0 this week. After defeating Marshall 4-2 on Senior day these Cards are gearing up for the AAC Championships in Tampa starting Thursday.

Women’s Rowing

Due to expected inclement weather later in the day, the event schedule was altered with the afternoon slate cancelled. During the morning session, the Cardinals earned four runner-up finishes behind No. 2 Ohio State and a pair of third-place finishes from its six crews at the event.
