Women’s Basketball: (25-6) #8

Jeff Walz

Last week: #15 UNC 77-75 W (OT), #8 FSU 66-51 L

I was in the waiting room of a hospital Friday night in an experience that was quite awful. But this team would not be denied of this win and that made me happy. Even after seeing Tar Heels Freshman Jamie Cherry nail a 40 footer to send the game to OT. Sara Hammond matched a season high 20 points and also added 4 boards. Myisha Hines-Allen added 17 points in a winning effort.

Then came Saturdays game. After 10 minutes of play it felt about the same as these twos first meeting when FSU jumped out to a 20 point lead quick. It was 33-9 with just five and some change remaining in the first half. The Cards would make it a 39-26 deficit at halftime and pull as close as 45-43. It stayed close until the last 5 minutes of the game when the free throws start adding up alongside desperation threes. Mariya Moore had 17 and nobody else cracked double digits despite the huge rally. The Cards await Selection Sunday.
